The aluminum sheet is offset from the wall by a 3/4" thick wooden frame which is attached to the back. Contrary to popular opinion, pigeons are extremely complex and intelligent birds. They mate for life and take an egalitarian view of parenting with both parents taking turns incubating the eggs and feeding and raising the young. Pigeons and humans have lived in close proximity for thousands of years - you can see them in art dating as far back as 4500 BC!
